In 2002, tourism become the world's n°1 export earner, ahead of automotive products, chemicals, petroleum and food: - worldwide receipts for international tourism relating to overnight as well as same-day trips amounted to US $474 billion*;
- the growth rate was estimated** at 0.3%;
- more than half of all international tourism receipts were earned by Europe.
