China

China has been the fastest growing in absolute terms…

1995–2002:
  • the country gained almost 17 million international tourist arrivals, an achievement only equalled by France and Spain, which both also grew by 17 million arrivals each in the same period, but at a much slower rate as they are adding to significantly higher base levels;

  • China has grown at an average rate of 9% per year during this period and reached a total of almost 37 million tourist arrivals in 2002.
