Food leads fair sales in Europe:
  • 69,4% of the total fair trade sales is made up of food,


  • 25,4% of handicrafts,


  • 5.2% of literature and products sourced from organisations in the social economy in the North.
Some food products have already gained high market penetration. For instance:
  • in Austria, fair trade organic coffee represents 70% of the organic coffee market;


  • Fair Trade bananas represent about 15% of the Swiss market.
