consumer's profile

Market research conducted in Germany and the UK demonstrated that consumers’ support is strongly influenced by...

Age
  • Awareness is higher among 45-54 year olds (up from 25% in 2001 to 31%).
Gender
  • Women are twice as likely to be aware of the original Fairtrade Mark than men and tend to buy more. Men are more negative and also more uncertain regarding buying fair.
Household income
  • Those who earn more, buy more Fair Trade products. If 18.8% of those who earn under 1,000 Euros/month buy fairly traded products, then among those who earn more than 2,500 Euros/month the fair-purchasers are 37.2%.
