In terms of number of protected areas, Europe leads the way…
 with over 43,000 sites;
on the opposite side, the Pacific has the lowest rate (around 320).
North Eurasia, has the 2nd place with nearly 18,000 protected area, followed by:
North America = 13,000;
Australia & New Zealand = 9,000;
Eastern & Southern Africa = 4,390;
Western & Central Africa = 2,600.
