In terms of percentage of land in protected areas…- South America tops the list: close to 42% of the region is held in protected areas = nearly 4 million Km2;
- also Central America shows a quite high percentage compared to other regions;
- the Pacific, lag at the bottom of the list with over 20,000 Km2 of protected areas representing only 1.5 % of its land area.
