tackling climate change

Solar electricity technologies make a significant impact on climate change mitigation:
  • it is estimated that by the year 2020 the cumulative amount of avoided CO2 due to solar electricity installations worldwide will have reached the annual level of 165 million tonnes;

  • this is equivalent to the annual emission produced by all 44 million cars in Germany!
An average US household uses 830 kilowatt-hours of electricity/month. On average, producing 1,000 kWh of electricity with solar power reduces emissions by
  • nearly 8 pounds (3.62 Kg) ofsulphur dioxide,

  • 5 pounds (2.26 Kg) of nitrogen oxides,

  • and more than 1,400 pounds (634.2 Kg) of carbon dioxide.
