Canada
The world’s total technically feasible hydro potential is estimated at 14,370 TWh/year. Today, about 2,600 TWh/year is in operation: a big potential remains to be exploited!

Canada is the world’s biggest producer of hydropower:
  • it generates 353 TWh/year = nearly 13% of the global output of hydropower;

  • 97% of its renewable electricity generation comes from hydropower, and

  • over 60% of its electricity exports are generated by hydropower.
In 2002, 5 countries - Canada, China, Brazil, USA and Russia - accounted for 51% of the world total hydroelectric power generation.
