future trends

Geothermal technology costs are expected to drop about 10% for each doubling of installed capacity.
  • Globally, geothermal is expected to reduce its costs by some 10% – 25% for each of the next two decades on this basis. This could result in geothermal power at 2-3 cents/kWh.

  • If exploited correctly, geothermal energy could certainly assume an important role in the energy balance of some countries. In certain circumstances even small-scale geothermal resources are capable of solving numerous local problems and of raising the living standards of small isolated communities.

  • In Bonn, during the 2004 summit on renewable energy sources, the Philippines announced plans to double its renewable energy capacity to 4,700MW by 2013, primarily by exploiting its geothermal potential.
