steel/ did you know?

It takes about 75% less energy to make steel from recycled materials than it does from iron ore…
  • steel is easily picked out of garbage and recycling waste by the use of large magnets - paper, glass and cardboard can be far more time consuming as often they must be picked out by hand;

  • the energy conserved by recycling 1 pound (0.37 Kg) of steel cans is enough to light a 60-watt light bulb for more than 1 day;

  • did you know, every minute, approximately 20,000 steel cans are recycled in the United States? Through recycling each year, the US steel industry saves enough energy to power 18 million homes - one-fifth of the households of the country;

  • in the USA, enough energy is saved each year by recycling steel to supply the city of Los Angeles with almost a decade worth of electricity.
