refillables

Most glass bottles in Europe and Japan are refillable…
  • Austria: 95%of beer and 65% of soft drinks are sold in refillable containers;

  • Finland: refillables make up 95% of beer and 99% of soft drinks. Thanks to an extended use of reusable containers, Finland produces the least amount of packaging waste in Europe;

  • Canada: many provinces promote refillables. 91%of beer sales are in refillable bottles. All beer and soft drinks produced in Prince Edward Island province, for instance, are in refillable glass bottles;*

  • the Netherlands has over 90% of soft-drink and beer sales in reusable containers as required by law;

  • Germany: citizens consume more than 70% of all drinks in refillables;

  • in Japan some 66% of bottles are reused.
Refillable glass bottles can be reused for about 20 trips, but these are heavier bottles. Non-refillable bottles are generally about 30 to 40% lighter.
