what kind of meat?
Globally, pork is the most widely consumed form of animal protein at around 40% of world meat consumption…

According to the USDA’s statistics world meat consumption by species is:
  • 43% pork

  • 27% poultry

  • 26% beef

  • 4% others
The new taste for pigmeat is placing heavy pressure on the world grain supply, since hogs yield only 1 pound of pork for each 4 to 6 pounds of grain they consume…

World pig meat production, 2001 (forecasts) *
Country 1,000 tonnes
China 43,300
EU 17,393
USA 8,790
Brazil 2,060
Canada 1,800
Poland 1,500
Russia 1,490
