R&D/ tropical diseases

Anti-microbial resistance is growing for most major infectious diseases…

1975-2000
  • only 13 of the 1,400 new medicines were for tropical diseases*;
2003
  • about 2 million people died of TB. The drugs and vaccines that had brought the disease under control in earlier outbreaks are not as effective as they were before.
Yet there have been no new treatments developed in 30 years!

* Including bacterial diarrhea, gonorrhea, malaria, pneumonia and tuberculosis (TB).
