prevention

Every minute, 10 people are infected with HIV…

bullet about 75% of HIV transmission is heterosexual.

Information & prevention strongly contribute to infection rates reduction…
  • consistent and correct condom use can reduce the risk of HIV infection from 60% to 96%;

  • in northern Tanzania, prevalence rates dropped 60% among young women during a six-years prevention campaign;

  • in Uganda, prevention campaigns have brought HIV infection rates down from 14% in the early 1990s to 8% today. The rate among pregnant women has declined by 40% since 1996.
