Europe

Finland is the only EU country to be able to stabilise in emissions and be on target for complying with the commitment to Kyoto Protocol…
  • combination of high fuel tax, high vehicle taxes and strong public transport offerings;

  • public transport represents 20% of all trips;

  • new technologies increase the flexibility and attractiveness as tickets can now be bought via your mobile telephone/GSM.
…and in Germany, an agreement between the railways and the German government has strongly improved railways energy efficiency:
  • German Railways (DB AG) reduced their energy consumption by 10% from 2002 to 2003 by educating drivers to drive more energy efficiently bringing down costs by an average EUR 8 million per year!

  • DB AG’s overall CO2 emissions went down by 25% between 1990 and 2003.
