Heating, cooling and hot water account for over 50% the cost of the average fuel bill. By saving energy, you reduce your contribution to consumption of fossil fuels and over time save money on energy bills…
  • choose gas (natural or propane) over electric every time - for the same heating value, gas emits well under 1/4 of the CO2 to atmosphere compared to electricity;

  • lower the temperature of your home by 5 degrees at night and when no one is home. Cut your heating costs by 10% and reduce your household emissions on average by 0.5 tonne;

  • if you use an air conditioning system, set thermostats to 27°C (80°F) in hot weather when you're at home, and up to 29°C (85°F) when you're away. A fan is very effective in the dry air-conditioned air;

  • remember: if you live in temperate climate regions, there are several alternatives to air conditioning (even in hot seasons): appropriate design, ventilation and gardening (indoor and outdoor) might offer you a better comfort than any energy consuming, noisy cooler.

  • upgrading heating controls you will improve the efficiency of any central heating system and cut your energy wastage and costs by up to 17%.
