insulation

More than half of energy used for heating is lost through uninsulated walls, floors, ceilings and attics…
  • seal all leaks around doors, windows and cracks where heat escapes from your home – and save up to 20% on your heating bill. Caulking and weather striping your doors and windows is one of the easiest ways to make your home more energy efficient;

  • 10 to 25% of your central heat is lost through windows: replace single-pane windows with double-pane windows that have low-emissivity (low-e) glass and vinyl frames to reduce the transfer of heat and filter out ultraviolet light;

  • in colder climates, select windows that are gas filled and have low-emissivity (low-e) coatings on the glass to reduce heat loss;

  • in warmer climates, select windows with spectrally selective coatings to reduce heat gain and save energy;

  • during daylight hours in the winter, open all the drapes and blinds on south-facing windows to gain maximum heat through the windows.
