organisation: Memisa
country: Belgium
product: CD
distribution: BeNeLux and worldwide via internet

who: Le Cordon Nord-Sud is a joint project of the MEMISA association, an organisation committed to promoting health care among disadvantaged populations in the developing world, and Media-Animation, a Belgian not-for-profit association.

objective: use the appeal of world music to increase awareness about North/South imbalances in health care.

why: “Listening to music of different styles together means giving ourselves the chance to communicate and to exchange hopes and fears” (Le Cordon Nord-Sud, brochure).

the CD: through 18 instrumental and vocal tracks of different music cultures, interpreted by local artists, the CD aims to affirm the power of music to cross linguistic, racial and cultural barriers better than any other medium and provide a unifying platform to foster closer co-operation in meeting worldwide health needs.
