who: Met is a sports helmet manufacturer that dedicates particular attention to design, performance and safety. All helmets are manufactured in Talamona, Lake Como, in the Italian Alps.
safe helmets: whether for competition, leisure, commuting or children, helmet design must include the highest safety consideration. A team of engineers uses structural impact analysis to simulate crash tests during the earliest stage of a new helmet’s development. They can actually analyse the behaviours of a new helmet’s design when involved in an accident before making a prototype.
green helmets: respect for the environment has always been one of Met’s core values. These values are integrated within all aspects of design, product development and production. Over the past 15 years, the company has dramatically improved the environmental performance of its production plants, covering the complete life cycle of the products and seeking to: minimise the consumption of energy and raw materials; minimise the production of waste and residual products; and facilitate waste management. Nearly all the materials in a new helmet can be recycled.
To reach this goal, the design and production processes avoid the use of hazardous materials and substances. Transformation of raw materials does not produce any waste. The steam used for the expansion of polystyrene is recycled through a condensation tower and used again for heating buildings. Fresh well water is also used to cool down the moulding machines. Waste -coming from the cutting of the micro-shell - is reduced to powder before being recycled and used again by the plastics industry.
ethical helmets: social responsibility is another basic value at Met. Unlike many western companies, the company has clearly made the choice to not transfer its production facilities to third world countries, in order to avoid exploiting the world's poorest populations, minority groups or child labour. Met’s financial program also includes an annual line-item dedicated to supporting humanitarian aid initiatives (e.g. Medici senza Frontiere).
