product: Simplicity Lessons is a practical guide for those who long for a slower pace of life with more time for relationships, fulfilling work, and living one's dreams. Working on your own or as part of a simplicity study group, you will explore the major areas of your life: material possessions, money, time, work, housing, transportation, relationships, inner simplicity, health, community, and environmental sustainability. You will consider not only what simplicity looks like for you as an individual, but also what we can do to create a more simplicity-friendly society.
Simplicity Lessons offers the readers plenty of tips and tricks for completing the inside work of cleaning out their closets and simplifying job, housing, and financial demands, while at the same time giving us a glimpse of the deeper ‘other-directed’ or outside reasons to simplify.
author: Linda Breen Pierce once lived the so-called American dream. She earned a six-figure income as an attorney, wore expensive silk suits, and spent her vacations at lavish resorts. But after practising law for 10 years, she realised that what she was giving to live this dream was not for sale. Starting in 1991, Linda and her husband Jim proceeded to simplify their lives. They moved from Los Angeles to the Monterey Peninsula in central California. They downsized their housing to half their former space without feeling deprived in any way. While living on considerably less income, Linda and Jim now enjoy life much more than in their previous lifestyle of high-pressure work in a large city. Linda no longer practices law. Writing and speaking on simplicity are her passions. Hiking, reading, and foreign travel are Linda's favourite leisure activities.
sustainable features: discovering and accepting the value of living a simpler life leads us into a process that is likely to last a lifetime. As the author explains:
“Simplifying your life is not accomplished in a few weeks, or even a few months. Many people need an initial period of three to five years to make basic changes toward a life of simplicity. And you never really get there. Simplicity is not a destination but a life-long process, a way of looking at life, a form of mindful living that will take on different shapes as you go through life. Recognize that what may be a life of simplicity for you now might look radically different in ten years. Refinements and adjustments are ongoing.” Linda Breen Pierce’s Simplicity Lessons is likely to become an often referred to friend in the years to come as your path to simplifying your life continues to unfold in front of you.
