company: Virtual Store
country: Italy
product: online warehouse for services & products exchange
distribution: worldwide via internet

what: Virtual Store is an Italian non governmental, not-for-profit organisation aiming at giving free support and an exchange platform to volunteer organisations from all around the world to better develop their projects in developing countries. It does so by networking a number of missions and associations and bridging them to work together on common projects.

Virtual Store is also the name of an online warehouse, where people can offer or find used and new objects or can showcase projects. It is divided into four different sections:

  • offer and demand of new or used materials (ranging from solar panels to notebooks, from medicines to baby carriages and so on);

  • offer and demand of personnel;

  • partners from the business world offering services that might be useful to assist projects in developing countries;

  • promotion of new projects carried out by missionaries and of seminars for humanitarian aid.
So far, the following projects have been successfully undertaken: the delivery of notebooks for a school in the Ivory Coast, of wheelchairs for disabled persons in the Central Africa Republic, of medicine in Albania, Uganda and Angola, of seeds in Burkina Faso. On-going projects include: the creation of a creamery for disabled people in Bolivia and the development of sports activities among youth in several African regions.

There are currently more than 1,000 organisations registered with the Virtual Store, but more are expected as English, French and Spanish versions of the website are soon to come and Chinese and Arabic translations are underway as well.
