who: Hemp Valley is a Danish company producing environmental friendly products. The company has been producing hemp garments since 1993. The hemp fibres are grown and cultivated in Nepal, China, Thailand and Romania. Hemp Valley is using certified organic cotton (BCS Oko-guaranteed from Germany).
what: hemp has been used by humans for over 6000 years by many different cultures. Now this most ancient of crops offers a way forward to help fashion a greener, cleaner world of the future. Products range from traditional hand-loom vegetable natural dyed of the Himalayas wild hemp, to the modern refined technology of growing, spinning, weaving, knitting and dying hemp. sustainability features: hemp is the strongest natural textile. It can be used as an eco-friendly raw material for different products ranging from textiles, cosmetics, paper, fuel and food to medical treatment, isolation and building materials. Unlike cotton, hemp is a non-polluting crop that improves the health of the soil it is grown in. Every year, 25,000 tons pesticides are used to grow cotton. The quality and usefulness of hemp is fantastic and could be an important issue in the future environmental and ecological development. During the process of loosening the fibres (retting) from the branches, spinning, weaving and knitting no chemicals have been used. Choosing hemp means to avoid extermination of the forest, to prevent pollution of the subsoil water and to reduce the carbon-dioxide outlet.
Employment in Hemp Valley is freely chosen and the organisation abhors forced labour, child labour, and human exploitation. The released wages are 20% higher than local average wages. Hemp makes it possible!
