organisation: founded in 1999, Casseurs de pub is a French association aimed at promoting the use of graphic and artistic creation to mount a critique of consumerism and suggest alternatives. As with its better known brother Adbusters, Casseurs de pub was founded by an advertising executive.
product: to fulfil its goal and give visibility to the campaigns it supports, the association publishes a yearly dossier (‘Casseurs de pub’), about 25,000 copies distributed, and a bimonthly newsletter (‘La décroissance’) with a distribution of 1,000 copies. Moreover, it produces cartoons and organises conferences, shows, exhibitions, etc. The annual dossier and magazine are available by subscription for €22.
campaigns: since its creation, Casseurs de pub has supported numerous actions and campaigns to promote critical thinking against consumerism hypnosis. Among these: - ‘rentrée sans marques’, against advertising in the schools;
- ‘journée sans achats’ (‘Buy nothing day’);
- ‘semaine sans télé’ (‘a week without TV’): from the 3rd to the 9th of May don’t waste the opportunity to switch off your TV, get back your free time, organise parties, chat with friends, and cultivate your own interior life...in other words, to be free!
