what do they do for YXC : The Environmental Youth Organization (Organización Juvenil Ambiental - OJA) have support several forums on sustainable consumption, one on a national level and three with UNESCO. They held workshops for teachers and with young people. They also encourage empowerment of young people: as part of an online course with Lund University, young people had to expose their own ideas to solve problems, using the youthXchange guide as an example.

latest news on YXC : In the past months, the Environmental Youth Organisation did two ecotourism visits in which they had the opportunity of having fun being conscious of the social and economical impact of our daily lives. They develop workshops where the participants were able to identify local and global problems and how they could be part of their solutions.

They use these activities as a way of promoting biological and cultural biodiversity, allowing people to discover new sustainable lifestyles. Through the experience the participants think about their daily routines and find out what is consider as unnecessary luxuries that can be changed for real standards of living that includes being part of a fairness world.

According to the Youth for Sustainable Consumption Global Campaign, we aim at raising awareness of the Colombian society about the importance of having a sustainable consumption and responsible lifestyles.

quote on youthXchange : The OJA and youthXchange thinks youth as the next generation of decision makers (Ministers, Mayors, etc.); giving them the capacity to take in account sustainable consumption for cleaner and environmental – friendly products in Colombia and over the world. Tomorrow’s decisions will have a sustainable background.

future plans for youthXchange : Working on the “YOUTH2YOUTH capacity building” program, in order to find a methodology developed by and for youth to have a sustainable consumption conscience and behaviour, we are trying to develop new actions which show the change in Youth minds.

By having participatory initiatives through projects that not only present new perspectives, but also create and build strategies and specific products, the OJA is looking forward for the fulfilment of the MDGs and the achievement of the goals proposed for the DESD.
