what: SCRAP (School and Community Reuse Action Project) is a non-profit organisation that collects reusable items from local businesses and distributes them to educators, artists, families and kids. The organisation dedicates part of its space to local artists who use found objects in their art. SCRAP
- participates in a number of annual community events;
- goes directly into Portland-Metro area schools to educate teachers and students on the value of reuse;
- has a store where goods created by recycling various (donated) materials are sold at very low prices;
- has a workshop room in its store that is used to educate the public on the value of reuse (anyone can use the workshop room while visiting the store for their own ‘scrappy’ projects).
mission: keeping valuable materials out of landfills, offering these materials at a low cost and inspiring the creative reuse of materials.
volunteers: there are many activities to be done and many roles to be covered inside the organisation. Check periodically at [www.scrapaction.org/volunteer.html]. We remind you that all positions offered are unpaid.
cool for you: by recycling materials, you can contribute concretely to environmental conservation, saving precious resources. Using these materials in a creative way brings an added value into the process. If you feel like part of a new future and live in the area, don’t hesitate to contact SCRAP! Otherwise, check on the Net: there are many other similar organisations all around the planet.
