organisation: European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE)
country: UK
type of biz: EU lobbying, networking

what do they do? The original aim of the Coalition was to end the use of animals to test cosmetics within Europe. How? By lobbying the European Institutions to eliminate animal experiments in many areas, including genetic engineering and the use of primates for research. The ECEAE web page provides useful links to some of the key animal protection societies from all over Europe.

results: in the framework of an international coalition of animal protection groups, ECEAE established in 1997 a new and internationally accepted standard for "Not Tested on Animals" products. Today, it manages the cruelty free logo (the "leaping bunny") together with the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics based in the USA.

cool for you: if you are a researcher, if you work (or would like to work) in the field of alternative tests, and/or if you are interested in supporting ECEAE lobbying work in Brussels as well within your own country…
