YXC IN SLOVENIA

what do they do for YXC: The Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning ensures that all citizens of the Republic of Slovenia have a healthy living environment. It promotes and coordinates efforts toward sustainable development, while striving for social well-being based on a wise and efficient use of natural resources. The Ministry endeavors to increase the concern of society for maintaining natural balance and biodiversity in the country, in the belief that biodiversity is an important heritage for future generations. In pursuing the objectives of sustainable development, the Ministry strives to strengthen the awareness of shared responsibility for the state of the natural and man-made environment among all people living in Slovenia.
latest news on YXC: YXC was published in September 2007 in 10 000 copies in Slovenian language. Some 5 000 copies were distributed to all primary and secondary schools as a recommended educational tool on sustainable consumption to be integrated in the teaching process. Additionally, they were also distributed to 350 Eco-Schools in the country. Copies were also sent to all libraries in Slovenia to be available to the larger public and 1 000 copies were sent to the Slovene Consumer Organisation. The YXC guide is also available to the public in the new Environment Centre established by the Ministry for the Environment and Spatial Planning and in consortium with five environmental NGO’s. Many copies have been sent out upon requests from different stakeholders.
It is of great importance that the text language of YXC has been adjusted suitably to every day life and expressions of the youth. Furthermore, over 30 best practices have been added into the Slovene YXC.
future plans for youthXchange:The Ministry is willing to cooperate in the teacher training sessions on how to use the YXC kit properly in their educational programmes and curriculum.
what else do they do:
The Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning pay a lot of attention to the environmental awareness, dissemination of information and education about sustainable development of the general public. Only in last two years it published few highly useful and applicable publications that people can really use in their everyday life, such as: “Take less. Have more. Collection of tips (hints) for harmless life”, “You have power. Also show the wisdom. About climate change”, the new web site Slovenia reduces CO2 (www.slovenia-co2.si ), the published guidance of the minister for local communities about integrated environmental management, etc.
