Taiwan

Over half of Taiwanese school students have been to a cybercafé, and 400,000 visit such cafés at least once a week…(*)
  • the study also found that 120,000 students visit over 2 times a week. The cafés are popular because few homes have high-speed Internet access;

  • the students spend an average of 8 and a 1/2 hours a week browsing the Internet and playing computer games at cybercafés. Almost 2/3 of the young cybercafé users are male;

  • the total amount spent by young visitors at Taiwan’s 2500 cybercafés is estimated to reach TWD79.6billion (USD2.32 billion) a year.

* According to a study from the Hsiang Yang Foundation, published in 2001.
