More than half (54%) of young Internet users consult the web for information about products and services...*
  • online window-shopping is most popular in Brazil, where 84% of young Internet users browse the web for product information, followed by the Netherlands (64%), Sweden (64%), the USA (60%), and Germany (59%);


  • despite the popularity of online browsing among young Internet users, only 27% of all respondents said they had actually purchased products or services over the web;


  • 43% of young web users in the United States have made online purchases, followed by Sweden (41%), and Germany (33%);


  • the most popular online purchases for young people are music (19%), clothing (16%), and books (14%);


  • of those who have purchased online, 43% reported using their own payment cards, while 28% used the card of someone else, generally a parent.

* According to a global study by Ipsos-Reid. The survey was conducted in 2000 with over 10,000 youths between the ages of 12 and 24 in 16 countries.
