AGRICULTURE & FARMING

Factory farm - even if focused on the US, this well-done site gives, in 7 brief sheets, a basic introduction to factory farms and the problems they cause to the environment as well as to the human health. [www.factoryfarm.org/whatis]

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) - speaking about agriculture, visiting the FAO website is a MUST! A wide range of documents, country data, statistics… organised by major issues: biotechnology, bio-security, organic agriculture, etc. For basic and advances research on these topics, this is ‘the’ international reference. [www.fao.org/ag] recommended updated

Pesticide Action Network (PAN) - is an association of NGOs, institutions and individuals in over 90 countries working to replace the use of hazardous pesticides with ecologically sound alternatives. Its five regional centres (North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia) produce a useful set of publications on pesticide problems and policy progress. One of the best sources on the subject. [www.pan-international.org] recommended YXC

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - a rich website where to find news, studies, statistics, and also funny facts (e. g. did you know that Americans consume 1.12 pounds of popcorns annually?) about US and its agricultural policy. [www.usda.gov] updated
