what do they do for YXC: MIO-ECSDE (Mediterranean Information Office for Environments, Culture and Sustainable Development), in partnership with Foundation of Mediterranean NGOs working in the field of Environment and Sustainable Development are the latest partners of youthXchange, joining the programme in 2007.
They are adjusting the content of the YXC guide on Greek reality and will print it in 5.000 copies. These will be circulated to the existing agencies dealing with students and youth : - Departments of Environmental Education of primary and secondary level in all Greek Directorates (in total ~120),
- Centres of Environmental Education (~55 throughout the country),
- Greek National Agency for Youth
- Departments of the Ministries of Education and Environment etc.
Furthermore in 2007-08, several activities will be undertaken through a collaboration project of MIO-ECSDE and the Municipality of Zografou (Athens area), to disseminate further YXC (i.e. dissemination of hardcopies, press conference, collaboration with schools of the area etc).
quote on youthXchange: "We think that YXC is in line with MIO-ECSDE’s principles and main fields of interest. It is rather appealing as it adopts an approach aiming directly to youth and their habits, employing a ‘fresh’ style and language. An advantage is that it’s not too long and tiring; but it provides the reader enough incentives to look deeper in issues, if desired. Also we like the fact that YXC is an international campaign targeting to many countries around the world."
future plans for youthXchange: Application in schools, dissemination to MIO-ECSDE’s network of teachers (~500), through the MEdIES programme. Following the collaboration with the municipality of Zografou, we will look for potential collaboration with other municipalities.
what else do they do: MIO-ECSDE is greatly involved in the area of education and awareness on water and waste issues in the Mediterranean region. In this context MIO-ECSDE publishes educational materials for teachers and students in many languages, organises training seminars in many Mediterranean countries, and facilitates the e-network of teachers engaged with “Education for Sustainable Development”.
