intro: recent studies seem to agree with the fact that cooking has therapeutic value physically, cognitively, socially and interpersonally. Physically, cooking requires good ROM (range of motion) in shoulders, fingers, wrists, elbow, neck, as well as good overall balance. Adequate muscle strength is needed in upper limbs for lifting, mixing, cutting and chopping. Furthermore, sensory awareness is important in considering safety while dealing with hot and sharp objects.

Cooking lessons may also teach the value of good nutrition, thereby improving overall physical health. As well, cooking requires problem solving through cognitive integration. Cooking can teach and enhance the skills of sequencing, time management, versatility, memory, attention and concentration. Sequencing involves planning, organising and understanding how and in what order to carry out the required steps.

Time management is needed to allow completion of a task within a given time frame. Versatility is important in modifying recipes and techniques once the basic skills are acquired. Concentration is needed, as the complexity of new recipes increases. Attention is important when several tasks are being accomplished at the same time. Lastly, memory (long term, short term and immediate) are important in remembering the sequence of steps, how to carry them out, time limits, and safety issues, while keeping in mind the end product of the activity.

Cooking can develop intra-personal skills such as self-esteem, competence, and insight into one's own abilities by providing a sense of accomplishment in creating a satisfying meal. Cooking with others can provide the opportunity to develop social skills. Furthermore, cooking enables an individual to expand their social networks by hosting and attending social gatherings.

what: “Good food, Fine wines, Entertainment, Discovery, Incentive, Team building, Animation, Seminars”, these are the key-words a young Brussels-based Italian chef, Carlo De Pascale, has put at the forefront of his priorities, creating a new activity in the Art of Food.

Cooking must become an enjoyable, creative and socialising activity for all: that’s why, together with his friends & colleagues Joël Scuttenaire, Jean Patrick Scheepers and François Dussart, he recently opened Mmmmh! in the centre of Brussels, a school/laboratory/entertainment place where the founders declare themselves “available for your culinary experiences”.

cooking classes: whether you choose the delights of Italian cuisine, the secrets of the new Greek cuisine, initiation to Thai cooking, the buffet of the thousand and one flavours from Marrakech or mushroom cuisine, cooking apprentices are full-immersed in the world of taste discovery, with a particular focus on the quality of ingredients, attention to the chromatic aesthetic of preparations and the ability of team-work, which is indispensable in this group-class course.
Each class starts with a brief presentation of the selected cuisine, and then the guests put on the aprons provided by Mmmmh! and begin their preparations with the expert help of the chef. When it’s ready, the ‘students’ sit around the table to taste what they have prepared with great enthusiasm.

cook & play: "Les Aventures Culinaires" is one of the unique concepts for a culinary event recommended in Mmmmh!’s programme. The event-schedule reported below, called “The Lost Taste”, is an example of how the organisers suggest spending a special evening among friends while cooking, tasting and entertaining.

  • invite 15 to 60 participants.


  • wet their appetite with a glass of mead as a welcoming drink.


  • mix well with your bilingual host who has turned into the Chamberlain of the Viking King, King Harald. Split your group into teams and have them board the (virtual) long ships for a crazy journey in search of the lost taste.


  • each long ship will sail through mysterious lands in search of lost tastes. Blindfolded, they will (re)discover the fine savours of tomatoes, bananas, cumin and other pleasurable tastes from different parts of the world.


  • they will also be served a magnificent plate of Scandinavian delights that you will enjoy with all your guests. The first long ship to fulfill its mission in search of lost tastes will be elected winner of the adventure.
