YXC IN THE PHILIPPINES

what : Based in the province of Laguna in northern Philippines, since 2003 YAFE and its active members use art in all its forms to promote environmental advocacy. Their aim is to develop the artistic skills of rural youth in all domains (creative writing, performing and visual arts) and to use this to empower them in making a positive impact in not only environmental but social issues as well.
latest news on YXC : The organisation, with the partnership of professors from the University of the Philippines, undertook the translation of the YXC guide in Filipino. They also adapted the guide to the Filipino public choosing examples that speak more to the local communities.
future plans for youthXchange : The launch of the Filipino YXC guide is the next step. Distribution through local NGOs and the local educational system will be spearheaded by YAFE in cooperation with the participating UNEP and UNESCO representatives. The ultimate goal would be to integrate the YXC guide and its principles into the national curricula.
what else do they do : YAFE regularly organises Art Jamming sessions, art workshops and other projects to keep their mission alive. The most recent and successful was their 2006 Bike Tour in which their members organized a mobile artistic exposition on bicycle all around the province of Laguna advocating environmental causes.
