eco-talent-scout: Legambiente, a leading Italian non-profit environmental organisation, has been promoting an international annual event in the past years called “Ecomoda”. The aim of this fashion show is to spread information about ecological solutions for the production of textiles and green fashion goods. All major producers are invited to attend with their products and their proposals. In the 2002 edition, the first prize winner was Igam Ussaro. His 100% environmentally friendly clothes deserve a place in YXC’s dep’t store!
who: Igam Ussaro, whose real name is Ugo Massari, is an emerging Italian fashion designer. A few years ago he launched Eco Fast Dress 2000, a full women’s wear collection whose main characteristics are its ironic approach to fashion and a very peculiar yarn: the textile is made from recycled thermoplastic post-use items and from virgin full biodegradable biopolymers turned in films, nets, tulles, and unwoven clothes. Eco fast Dress 2000 is produced by the Italian firm SacPlast in Pavia and distributed in Italy by Mina Boutique [www.minaboutique.it], Fidenza (PR).
what: from swimsuits (which dry as soon as your out of the water) to strongly coloured raincoats (with warm linings as well), from the trendiest disco suits to glittering evening dresses and even white wedding dresses with accessories, Igam Ungaro clothes are ecological, ornamental and functional with a style harmonised to the environment.
Here, for example is his polymeric bikini Legami (Bind Me) made of LDPE, available in 8 colours, size free, requiring only 3 knots to put on. Each bikini comes packed in a 100x100mm sachet (see picture).
Clothes are made with a patented technique using thermoforming and thermo welding instead of traditional sewing, a unique procedure that takes advantage of the textile’s special characteristics. The packaging, in practical pocket vacuum cases, completes the picture of this new kind of clothing made in order to satisfy the desires of a more and more conscious consumer.
